Therapeutic Support

Therapeutic Support

If you are struggling with a specific life event (like the loss of a loved one), facing life stressors (like a tough job, or relationship issues) and those issues are causing you distress and are interfering with your daily life, it might be time to look for therapy. Since 2013, I’ve been providing therapeutic support for people with a wide range of issues (traumatic bereavement, abandonment anxiety, suicidal thoughts…). My 10 years’ experience as an expatriate also gives me an in-depth understanding of the realities of these environments, in which points of reference are disrupted and destabilizing events sometimes occur. Depending on the nature of the person’s need and request, my therapeutic practice will be based either on the combined psychodynamic and humanistic approaches,, or on the application of the EMDR protocol.

Psychodynamic and humanistic approaches

Psychodynamic therapy, using orality, aims to shed light and make sense of all or part of a person’s life, and of the interplay of players that has led to the current thoughts, and to bring out emotions blocked in the person’s psyche. The relationship established is inspired by humanist and existentialist currents, which draw on the person’s preserved resources to enable him or her to deal with their difficulties, applying Carl Rogers’ principles: (i) authenticity of the therapist; (ii) total and unconditional acceptance of the person as they appear to themselves now, excluding all moral, ethical or social criteria; (iii) acceptance of the person’s world in all its dimensions.

The office is located on the 1st floor of the building at

EMDR

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) enables to reprocess traumas and painful life events, various obstacles to well-being (anxiety, phobias, panic attacks, etc.) and adverse life drivers (such as childhood conditioning/psychological abuse), which are sources of disruption in daily life, as well as suffering related to addictions or depression.
Based on the neuroplasticity of the brain, and using visual or auditory stimulation, EMDR reconfigures the connections between synapses and neurons. At the end of the treatment, past memories stored in dysfunctional memory zones stop invading the present and harming the person.
EMDR follows a rigorous protocol that has been the subject of numerous scientific studies and validations. It has been recognized as a treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder by the WHO, INSERM (french National Institute of Health and Medical Research) and the HAS (french national Authority of Health (2007)
It can be practiced face-to-face or online.

Some examples of treatment

  • Panic attacks prior to air travel
  • Traumatic experience of migration
  • Childhood physical abuse
Example of a treatment course for panic attacks preceding air travel* :
  • 3 sessions to define elements on which the work will focus and a “mentalized safe place”, measure disturbance cues and set up the therapeutic alliance;
  • 10 sessions of alternating bilateral stimulation focusing on the oldest memory, then on the installation in the present of the new positive cognition linked to the situation of future air travel;
  • 1 closing session.

*This example is an indication of the course of treatment given on the basis of a real case, which naturally does not imply any commitment as to the duration of treatment, which varies from one person to another.

The consultation room can accommodate one or two people, seated opposite the psychologist. Individuals may also choose to use the couch to express themselves without having someone looking at them.

The room overlooks the quiet courtyard. A blind protects the patient’s anonymity.
